Nuclear Energy is the safest, most reliable, and least harmful way to
generate electricity. The 104 nuclear power plants operating in the
United States provide over 20% of the country’s electricity. For some
nations, this percentage is much more; in France 78% of the country’s
electricity comes from nuclear. [3]
HYPERION
Global warming. Dependence on foreign oil. Infrastructure vulnerable
to natural and man-made catastrophes. Undrinkable water, poverty,
disease, social unrest. Definitely, nuclear power is one of the solution
for these serious issues.
Hyperion small modular power reactors make all the benefits of safe,
clean nuclear power available for remote locations. Hyperion offers
reliable energy with no greenhouse gas emissions. Hyperion power is
also cheaper than fossil fuels. [2]
November 16, 2008 --- "personal" nuclear power
Hyperion, an Arizona-based company, is planning to bring a new
generation of miniature nuclear reactors (Hyperion Hydride Reactor) to
market. The reactor will output 27MW, enough to power a community
of 20,000 homes. This reactor is not much larger than a hot tub, is
totally sealed and self-operating, has no moving parts and, beyond
refueling, requires no maintenance of any sort.
Currently, Toshiba is also working on its own mini nuclear reactor, the
"4S". The 4S is based on a smaller 10 MW design. [1]
