The emissions are based on data from oil giant BP PLC, which
show that China has become the major driver of world trends.
China emitted 2 billion tons of carbon (1.8 billion metric tons)
last year, up 7.5 percent from the previous year.
Cities often blamed for producing most of the world's
greenhouse gas emissions actually generate just two-fifths or
less. Actually, country-dwellers tend to have larger homes that
need to be heated or cooled and higher car use per
household.[2]
California can lead the nation in the development and
implementation of green technology that utilizes clean and
renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy
generation. Proposition 10 will invest in clean and renewable
energy on four fronts: increasing our portfolio of renewable
energy for electricity generation with solar and wind power;
replacing old, polluting trucks with new trucks powered
by clean fuels; providing consumer rebates for high efficiency
or clean alternative fuel vehicles; and providing research and
development funds to stimulate and create jobs in California's
growing renewable energy sector. [1]
