Researchers generate fertile live mouse pups
Chinese researchers have managed to create powerful stem cells from mouse skin and used these to generate fertile live mouse pups. They used induced pluripotent skin cells, or iPS cells — cells that have been reprogrammed to look and act like embryonic stem cells. Embryonic stem cells, taken from days-old embryos, have the power... »
Creat "liver cells"
A team from Newcastle University created sections of liver using stem cells from umbilical cords. They used a microgravity bioreactor to to aid the creation of cells by mimicking weightlessness. The researchers, Dr Nico Forraz and Professor Colin McGuckin, have started a company called ConoStem to market their stem cell work. In the news... »

Growth of Adult Brain Stem Cells
Paul Patterson and Sylvian Bauer of the California Institute of Technology injected leukemia inhibitory factor, or LIF (a natural protein from the body) into a part of the brain of adult mice where stem cells reside. This fostered the production of up to six times the usual count of adult neural stem cells. Researchers hope... »
